This one was the first interaction we had with The Iron Butt Rider. In a conversation with our team, we knew about the adventure that Sérgio and Kyr were willing to face, and we didn't hesitate to be part of the adventure.
We asked how the around the world idea came about, Kyr was enlighted us about what really motivated them.
"I always wanted to travel the world, experiencing different cultures and testing myself into different situations. When I was 17 years old, I dreamed about doing so on a bicycle, but then I realized that a motorcycle is a much better idea. We both like extreme conditions, such as never sleeping in hotels. Being fully autonomous for some days and depending only on ourselves in terms of mechanics and maintenance, So in some way we don't think it's a big adventure, It's just an exciting trip which could be even longer and more challenging.“
What can make a father and son trip around the world even more fascinating? No plans, the only rules of the trip were that they couldn't sleep in hotels, cant eat in restaurants. The main purpose of the trip was definitely to get out of their comfort zone.
1. Pont du Galetas
Does this view remind you of something? Normal, it is THE view that you find everywhere when you talk about the Gorges du Verdon. Astride the departments of Alpes de Haute Provence and Var, the Pont de Galetas (The Galetas Bridge) offers one of the most famous views in the world! The reason for this is that you can go there by car or walking to see the end of the canyon, where the Verdon river meets the lake of Sainte-Croix. Magical, isn’t it?
2. Route des Gorges
You can drive up the mountain and travel part of a panoramic route through paths full of curves with other viewpoints and interresting places. The Route des Crêtes is the most recommended route, but there are others with great spots to dmire the view, such as Point Sublime and Balcon de la Mescla.
3. Historic Little Villages
There are several interesting little villages around Gorges du Verdon. Moustiers-Sainte-Marie is the most interesting and sought after, located high up in the mountain, but many people also visit Aiguines and Palud-sur-Verdon.
