UK Honda Xtreme Academy Riders Enjoy Day With The Pros
With the hardpack track having been prepared and watered, riders were treated to a briefing followed by numerous training sessions with the stars on different sections of the circuit. Around 40 riders under the age of 18 on CRF150R and CRF250R machinery, who also received hydration kits from new Xtreme Academy partner, Science in Sport, came along to enjoy this special experience.

“It was really great today. To have the top pro riders that we see on telly each week come here and teach us was really special. They helped a lot by giving us advice to build on what I already know, and in some places they showed us lines that maybe we wouldn’t have thought of before. The track was great too, I loved it,” said current UK Honda Xtreme Academy series leader Brad Todd.

The Xtreme Academy is predominantly for CRF150R riders racing nationally and is available in five countries across Europe. It offers a separate Honda championship with access to a huge prize pool, recognition as a Honda rider, peer mentoring, pro training and much more. In the UK the championship runs alongside the ACU BYMX big wheel series and was last year won by Adam Sterry.

The special training event at Salters Lane Motoparc invited Honda youth riders of all levels to come together in an exclusive opportunity to train with some of the World’s best riders just two days before they will head out on track for the Grand Prix of Great Britain at Matterly Basin.

Today has been a real success. It’s the second year we’ve run the Xtreme Academy, and the first time we’ve arranged a training event of this type in UK. The track was great, and the kids have all really enjoyed themselves. It was also good to see our pros get so into it, and quite passionate about training the youngsters, as they could see them progress throughout the day. This is an important part of our programme to help our young riders develop, and it was great to see all of the BYMX CRF150R riders here today. We wish them the best of luck for the rest of the season,” said Honda Motor Europe Off-Road Manager, Roger Harvey.

Riders went on to do start practice in the afternoon session, followed by open practice in the final part of the day. Having had a huge amount of track time, the youngsters were certainly happy as they came off circuit to receive their special achievement awards signed by all of the Honda Pro riders.

For the UK the Honda Xtreme Academy has certainly raised the profile of the CRF150R and it’s a gre at way of putting something back into the grass roots of the sport. Today’s event was great and I’m sure it will be very useful to the young riders that attended, as it’s unusual to be offered such a special opportunity. The track was great too; I’d like to thank Mark from Rev Racing for hosting this event on behalf of Honda UK, and I hope we can win the BYMX big wheel championship again this year,” said Neil Tuxworth, Manager - Honda Racing.
