EMX2 - Christophe Charlier won the opening race
HAWKSTONE PARK (Great Britain), 12 April 2009 – French rider Christophe Charlier from the Italian Yamaha team Gariboldi Racing took the whole 50 points at the first event for the EMX2 European Championship in Hawkstone Park, Great Britain. Only 14 year old Jeffery Herlings (KTM) was second, Neville Bradshaw (Honda) was third.
Christophe Charlier, who won already second Saturday’s Qualifying race was invincible. He won both races, although his starts were not the best. He was more satisfied with the second race, but his advantage was bigger after he crossed the final line in the first race. Second was the new EMX2 European Championship rider Jeffrey Herlings from Netherlands. Herlings is the EMX-85 European Champion. This season he is competing for the JM Racing Team. It seems that the team has another young star after last year’s European Champion Valentin Teillet moved to the MX2 GP. Neville Bradshaw (Honda) finished top three. Ken Roczen (Suzuki) expected more than he got. As he won the Qualifying Race 1, he was hoping to finish the race in the top three. Mike Kras (Kawasaki) finished top five.
Already next Spanish event in Talavera de la Reina will be very interesting. British event showed to riders what they still need to improve for better results and next weekend will be their next chance.

RIDER’S COMMENTS:
1st – Christophe CHARLIER: “Physically and psychically I am very well prepared for the season. I am in the good condition at the moment. I was trying to do best that I can and the result is here. I am more satisfied with the second race. I live and practise in Italy with my team Gariboldi Racing. During the winter time we had been working together with Yves Demaria and I think those trainings were very helpful.”
2nd – Jeffrey HERLINGS: “I spent the perfect weekend here in Hawkstone Park. It was a bit strange that I did so good result after two big crashes. In the first race I had a good start, but I needed to work hard to stay in front. In the second race I took the leading position, but I could not keep it. I do not have enough power in my arms yet. So I am very satisfied with the second place. In the future I will need to work more on speed. This year is my first year in the EMX2 European Championship, I will see how it will be. My bike is perfect prepared, sometimes I think that it is even too strong for me. I would like thank to my team.”
3rd – Neville BRADSHAW: “I have been racing here in Hawkstone Park many times before because I am competing in the British Championship. I live in England. The race track was well prepared. My starts were not very fast, I took better start in the first race. I have a new bike and settings are good for the moment. In my opinion there are many fast young riders in the EMX2 European Championship this season. Also the organization of the event was on the very high level so I think it is good for the Championship.”
