How to
repair a puncture
The best
way to fix a puncture is to replace the punctured inner tube instead of
repairing it. Carrying a spare inner tube, a set of tire levers and a pump is
essential for a good bike ride. Repair the
puncture later and use the punctured inner tube as spare. Bring always a set of
tire repair, in case you have another puncture.
Polisport
has at your disposal two sets of three ergonomic, light, fitting on each other
dismantling pieces, to save space and help you having an organized and of easy
access bag, any time you need them.
1. Remove
the wheel and place a dismantling tires between the tire and rim, take out one
side of the tire. Lock the dismantling tires to a spoke, insert near it a
second dismantling tires and push it forward, going all way around the rim to
take out one side of the tire.
Remove the
inner tube.
2. Inflate the inner tube enough to hear
the air out through the puncture. Mark the hole with a pencil of your set of
tire repair. Let all the air out and spread a thin layer of glue on and around
the puncture.
3. Wait a
few minutes until the glue gets sticky; should change from transparent to
opaque. Remove the foil from the back of the patch and then press firmly over
the glue, holding it for at least one minute. Check if the patch has formed a
good protection and that all its ends are smooth.
4. Spread
some chalk on the patch to prevent any excess of glue from sticking to the
inside of the tire. Some sets of puncture repair contain chalk powder, others
have a stick of chalk to rub with sandpaper, in order to make it into powder.
5. Take out
the rest of the tire from the rim, check the outside and then turn it over and
feel well the inside area, looking for something that can be spiked, before
placing an inner tube. If you find something, remove it from the outside of the
tire.
6. Place one side of
the tire into the rim. Inflate lightly the inner tube, insert the valve into
the slit and place the inner tube under the tire. Pull the valve up and,
breaking the valve, raise the other side of the tire, one section at a time,
over the rim. Push the valve downwards and place the tire, section by section,
in order that the inner tube does not get trapped between the tire and the rim.
Inflate the tire.
